Welcome!

MY PROMISE TO YOU IS THAT I WILL ALWAYS CHOOSE RIGHT OVER WRONG;
ETHICS OVER CONVENIENCE;
AND TRUTH OVER POPULARITY.

My first term has indeed been a steep learning curve, as representative for the largest geographic district on the Board of Education. Nonetheless, I do believe that we, as a “county” community, have begun to realize that our children are the most valuable resource we have today, and we need to continue to invest in their tomorrow. That investment cannot be based on the current political winds, but rather on the belief that our children are the future of California. They deserve the opportunity to learn in an environment that supports their educational opportunities, their teachers, their parents, and their communities.

During these first few years I have worked hard to ensure that the County Board of Education became the catalyst for ensuring the State of California and our own local school districts find realistic alternatives to the current fiscal crisis that:

Let taxpayers know their money is spent wisely, so good teachers are kept on the job, and necessary school support personnel can help our students achieve greater expectations for their futures.

There still are no easy answers for the budget crisis, but there are no shortcuts for education, either. If we allow the governor and legislators to balance the budget on the backs of our children, we diminish the future - of ourselves, our children, and our state. Working together, we can continue to make the San Diego County educational process a model for the state and the nation and one in which all our communities will take pride.
